Accelerated population growth and development have put great pressure to our vulnerable environment. Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is an integral part of all large projects. Impact assessment should guide the design and planning process and lead to balanced ecological, economical and technically feasible projects.
DHI-NTU Centre works towards developing new tools, methods and knowledge that will allow engineers and decision makers to develop more efficient, balanced and sustainable management of the water environment under current and future conditions.
Research areas looked into includes:
-
Detailed analysis of project designs
- Baseline description of the ecosystem
- Establishing cause and effect relationships
- Detailed and quantified description of impacts
- Proposals for project adjustments and mitigation measures
- Suggestions for environmental management plans
- Proposals for active monitoring schemes
- GIS-based and scenario evaluation tools
- Tailor-made DSS and Information management systems
- Environmental impact assessment of pathogens and emerging contaminants
- Impact due to dredging and reclamation works
